The STOP TB Partnership has recently released modelling which predicts an additional 6.8 million TB cases between 2020 and 2025, possibly setting back TB control efforts by 5-8 years.
The report, highlighted in a communique from Geneva earlier this month, suggests that the COVID-19 3-month lockdown and 10-month restoration period is particularly disruptive to TB control services, many of which have been co-opted for COVID-19 treatment in high burden areas.
The report warns that we may face a return to TB rates not seen since 2013 or 2016.
