About

Associate Professor Bernadette Saunders leads a research group investigating the interactions between macrophages and pathogens such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis, with the goal of developing new therapeutics and biomarkers for infectious diseases. Her team uses advanced cellular and molecular approaches to improve tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis and monitor treatment responses, aiming to identify individuals not responding to therapy early. In addition to exploring novel therapies for tuberculosis and non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) infections, the group studies how macrophages control infection and regulate inflammation, uncovering genes and pathways that could serve as targets for therapeutic intervention.
