We are delighted to congratulate Duy Trinh Hoang, PhD candidate under the supervision of TB-CRE Chief Investigators Professor Gregory Fox and Associate Professor Sarah Bernays, on the publication of his first peer-reviewed paper in the prestigious journal Social Science & Medicine. The paper examines the political economy of Community Advisory Boards (CABs) in tuberculosis research and the role they play in community engagement and research governance.

Drawing on interviews with TB advocates, community engagement practitioners and CAB representatives, the study provides a critical analysis of the experiences of CAB facilitators and explores the history of community engagement in TB research, including ongoing questions around power sharing and representation.

The publication links the team's initial empirical work with future theoretical contributions and represents a significant achievement.

 

Within the social sciences, Social Science & Medicine is considered one of the leading journals in the field, making this an outstanding outcome and a reflection of Duy's exceptional capability as an emerging researcher.
