USAID announces major funding towards TB elimination in Indonesia

A new program to strengthen Indonesia’s fight against tuberculosis towards elimination TB by 2030 was announced in July 2023 by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Indonesia’s Ministry of Health. Freedom from TB (BEBAS TB) is a five-year, $70 million TB flagship activity to improve the quality of tuberculosis case detection, diagnosis, care, and prevention. Read more...


The activities include research and align with priority areas identified by the recent Joint External Monitoring Mission in 2022 (SG, CI a member) and by the national TB research team which includes Dr Trisasi Lestari. Read article..


CRE members have been supporting important TB-related activities in detection, treatment, and prevention in recent years. Projects include Zero TB Initiative based in Yogyakarta led by Dr Rina Triasih from Universitas Gadjah Mada in collaboration with The Burnet Institute (Philipp du Cros, AI), implementation research in Papua led by Dr Trisasi Lestari with support from Menzies School of Health Research and Burnet (Anna Ralph, Steve Graham, Chris Lowbridge) and operational research training in TB led by Burnet (Geoff Chan, Philipp du Cros) in collaboration with local partners (Rina Triasih, Trisasi Lestari, Bintari Dwihardiani) and Menzies School (Chris Lowbridge).
